STAYBRIDGE SUITES, JAMAICA STREET, GLASGOW
Client: City Sites for Staybridge Hotels

Architect & Interior Designer: Young and Gault LLP

Description:

Located on Jamaica Street, between the Jurys Inn hotel and MacSorleys Bar, lies the proposed site for the first Staybridge Hotel in Scotland. The hotel is designed to provide long stay facilities for visitors to Glasgow, with individual studio or 1 bedroom apartment style accommodation. Each room type offering its own kitchen, dining and lounge area, with either an open plan sleeping area or separate bedroom, each overlooking the impressive Glasgow skyline.

The building is proposed to stand at 18 floors, with the Ground and First comprising reception/ bar, buffet/dining area, guest exercise, laundry facilities, and BBQ area. It is proposed to make a feature of the building and its form. Therefore the shape and cladding of the exterior has been carefully designed with the consideration of both how the building will look at close proximity, and from key locations around the city centre, such as from the Kingston Bridge, both during the day and night. A combination of reflective metals and glass cladding, with additional textured surfaces, are proposed to form the main portion of the building envelope. Details such as accenting fins both vertically and horizontally at key material changes, introduce depth, colour, and contrast, to create a vibrant and striking character and prominence on the Glasgow Skyline.
